Dr Tomike Olawande is a passionate mental health advocate sociologist, educator, and care practitioner dedicated to improving how individuals, families, and communities understand and respond to mental health and wellbeing.
With a PhD in Sociology and a strong academic background in medical sociology, Dr Olawande has spent years researching critical issues such as mental health inequalities, access to care, stigma, and the social factors that shape wellbeing. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and focuses on bridging the gap between research, policy, and real-life experiences.
She served as a university lecturer, teaching courses including Sociology of Health and Illness, Medical Sociology, and Demography. During this time, she mentored students, led academic programmes, and contributed to shaping future professionals in the field of health and social care.
Dr Olawande combines her academic expertise with hands-on experience as a Care practitioner. This dual perspective gives her a unique voice, one that understands both the theoretical and practical realities of mental health care. She works closely with individuals living with complex needs, including dementia, providing compassionate, person-centred support while advocating for dignity, respect, and holistic care.
